I have a huge problem with they way an associate treated a two time war vet last week. As my husband and I were purchasing a ring from our sales guy I asked if there was a military discount.

Our sales guys said no, which is fine with us (that is not my complaint). Then another associate, who was not even our sales guy nor helped us with anything chimes in and says "We are a large company so we give discounts to ALL our customers not just soldiers". Wow. How dare he say that to a two time war vet who is still enlisted that has lost friends in combat!

and make him feel like there is nothing special about him or his service. Is this who Kay treats our service men and women?

Perhaps a comment such as "I'm sorry Kay does not offer a military discount to soldiers but thank your for your service" would be better. Kay is located in a military town; what a shame!

Location: El Paso, Texas

This will completely enrage a few folks, so be it.Yes 12 month deployments are a real test on a family's strength.

Yes putting my life on the line in some foreign country whose inhabitants hate America is scary.

But, I did enjoy tax free combat pay - no taxes on my income. I enjoyed the housing allowance that allowed me to pay rent, cable, and electric and still have some money to go out once or twice a month.

I was college educated for free on the GI bill and after serving got a GOOD job making lots of money.

I didn't get rich, my marriage was tested regularly, and I lost friends.

I don't deserve a discount at any retailer.

I served, it was my job and I joined mainstream America. Thank you for thinking of me - but I'm doing just fine without a discount.

they cancelled my account because I transferred under orders and was late for one payment in the process of moving. My account was in good standing for years until then.

The sales associate needs an etiquette book.

I don't see how the other sales person was being rude. He made a professional and generalized comment to be fair to all the customers.

They don't know he is a war veteran, or lost friends, and its actually a little snobby to get mad over that.

I hate to sound so frank, but the real underlining issue here is they didn't cater to your fragile bloated ego or self entitlement complex.

My husband is a veteran as well. 34 years to be exact. For me to get nasty or crazy over something as little as this, would be *** and DISRESPECT to the soldiers we married. Everyone thinks that military wives are self serving *** and this tantrum your throwing on here is the exact reason people believe that.

It gives us a bad name.

Thanks a lot ***!

As a Soldier myself, I could not agree more! We CHOSE to raise our right hand, we are not owed anything! I appreciated discounts that many companies offer; however it should NEVER be expected.

Guest

Wow! That's just terrible.

They offer discounts to everyone NOT just military? The horror! Because only military deserve discounts right.

My husband is retired military and served in 2 wars!! Get off your high horse and find something real you can complain about.

Andrea Ahw

How dare they have the nerve to tell your husband he is no more special than anyone else? I mean the nerve.

Seriously, my father is a two time Vietnam vet with over 40 bullet holes in his body. He does not cry over military discounts.

Guest

I am a four time vet do I get a discount before your husband? pull my trump card out.

j/k lock online before buying something large if you want a military discount. it will save you your anger.

Guest

Lady you have to much time on your hand's.Get over this.Your husband did not complain YOU DID.Your husband probably could care less about this matter,As a matter of fact your husband probably didn't even want to go shopping YOU DID.WTF Do you want everyone to SALUTE YOU for being a VET'S WIFE.GET A LIFE LADY.

While I support the comment, please do me a favor and get over the "two time war vet" I have several friends including myself who have served way more than two tours in combat and have lost plenty of friends. I think what Kay Jewelers did is rude and pathetic but don't use the "two time war vat" to make it sound worst than it is. Please thank your husband for his continued service.

As an enlisted military personal i feel like this company just as well as everyone else is entitled to their own opion, views, and values, i serve my country by choice not because of the perks i get from bein in uniform. we serve to protect freedom and democracy so it would be hypocritical to be upset with Kay for excercising it.

I don't think the poster is over reacting at all. I think the first statement was fine, the extra side one would have pissed me off.

It also bothers me a bit, like other posters, that they use the military throughout their commercials and don't offer a discount or fundraiser/supporter. They are involved in a charity, but it isn't for the military it is for kids. So use kids in your commercials, not the military.

I have also had issues with them. My fiancee is in the army.

He is in GA while I am in OH, he bought the ring where he is at. I wanted to get it resized and when I went into the store near me they were super rude to begin with. I explained I don't have the info on my ring and can't get it because we don't have contact right now. Instead of looking it up they sent me on my way, telling me to come back with the info.

I called the Kay he bought it from and they were super helpful. They then went on to tell me that the store me could have easily looked it up and were sorry for my experience.

I am not in the military and neither is my son. People are able to make the choice to join or not because we have those that do volunteer to serve.

They protect us and our freedoms and we should be thankful.

Military and retired military should get discounts everywhere. Their service allows these companies to exist and flourish in America.

Guest

@Maria I agree. They use the image but treat all people with disrespect.

Check out veteraninjustice.org and learn what they did to my wife, who is a retail employee. Sign the petition to boycott this company.

Is this *** still about your wife getting fired from Kay because she sucked as a sales person and couln't make her quota? Holf *** man!

Get over it already. Your wife couldn't do the jon they required and they fired her. END OF FRICKIN STORY! So she was vet.

Big deal. Doesn't change the fact that she couldn't do the job!

Guest

I am not, nor have I ever been in the military. I have had friends who are and were.

That all aside, I think it's awful that Kay Jewelers uses the image of a Military person away from his wife and little boy to sell their jewelry, yet they offer no discount, or any kind of fund raising for the troops. That's called exploiting in my eyes.

Guest

y u gys rude to her

Guest

Wow, calm down is right. WM Storm Vet, you are rude and a disgrace to our military, period.

You're nasty! A pat on the back?? How dare you? We all suffer, whether it is on the front line or at home.

I also agree that it sucks that certain spouses are always trying to get stuff free. I love discounts as much as the next person, but I won't cry about it and *** about Kays because they didn't give me a discount.

Guest

Typical military spouse, it's as if they were the ones over there serving and it's them that wakes up at 4 am everyday to go to work and come home late at night or go to the field for months at a time. I've deployed multiple times as a Cavalry Scout (Combat) in the US Army and have been in for 10 years and I don't walk around looking for handouts or first class.

I don't wear my uniform in the airport for no reason, looking for thank you's, sympathy, free food, drinks or first class.

There's nothing wrong in asking for the discount but remember that you're not the one who earned it, your husband/wife who served did. Don't take it personal when someone says that they don't believe that we deserve a discount on every single thing.

Guest

This company is known to disrespect just about everyone, including veterans. Especially at the corporate level.

My wife is a veteran and they have treated her with such contempt and disdain that it is disgusting. They didn't do this because she is a veteran, but when you threaten a veteran with unemployment on veteran's day (for not selling enough jewelry) and then don't, at the very least admit you screwed up and apologize for it, there are serious problems.

veteraninjustice dot org details it.
