Kay Jewelers lost my ring and didn't even care

My boyfriend bought my "promise ring" there, out of the engagement section of the store, but he just bought as a promise ring. The ring was about $2,500 and it was really beautiful, but wasn't my size. So we gave to to kay jewelers to have them size the ring and the woman behind the counter told me I wore a size 3.5 in rings. I assured the woman that I know my size and I definitely wear a size 4. So against my request the woman ordered my ring in a size 3.5 instead of a 4 like I told her. I went to pick up my ring and what do you know, it didn't fit, so I had them send it back to be resized again to a size 4 like I had been telling them. I really wanted to wear my ring for a family event that was coming up three weeks later so I told Kay Jewelers to please call me as soon as the ring was ready so I would have it in time for the event, they assured me that the ring would be back in just one week. One week went by and still no phone call. Then two weeks went by and still no phone call. After the second week had passed I started calling the store, every time I called the store a woman would tell me that someone was going to call me back. I called about five times a day for three days in a row and still never got farther than telling them my situation. Finally I walked into the store demanding to know where my ring was. A woman came out of the back and explained to me that it was not their fault it was their "UPS" guys fault. She explained to me that two weeks ago their UPS driver lost a ton of rings, mine being one of them. I asked her how long it would take for her to get me another one and she said with attitude "well that all depends on if you even had insurance on the ring". I let her know that YES, my boyfriend bought insurance on my $2,500 PROMISE RING and she still treated me with such disrespect. I called my boyfriend and he came down to the store and the woman was still incredibly rude and made comments about how young we were. Finally we demanded our money back and told them they can keep the ring that will replace the lost one. We walked straight over to Helzberg Jewelers and he bought my replacement promise ring there. Helzberg was so nice and so helpful, they really build a great relationship with their clients, so much so that for EVERY holiday my boyfriend buys me something new from Helzberg Jewelers. AND he just purposed to me with a beautiful 2 ct ring from Helzberg Jewelers!! Kay's treated us like trash because they thought we were young to spend any money that they would miss there if they lost us as clients. Well little did they know that we were the type of people to spend $22,000 at a jewelry store in just 3 years. SO DO NOT GO TO KAY JEWELERS!!!

Kay Jewelers is a huge let-down.

We got engaged in September '09. A month later, the prong on my solitaire engagement ring bent. When I went in, I decided to just put my diamond in the wedding setting I had picked out to save time. A month later I got my ring back. A week after that, a diamond had fallen out of it. I called Customer Service and they said that they would have the store do a special order because I needed a smaller size. The store never contacted me, so I assume that they never placed the order. I had to go to Officer Training shortly after the wedding, where another diamond fell out. I went to the store in San Antonio, and their computers were down so they couldn't help me. So, I waited until I got home and called Customer Service again. They placed another special size order. This time I went into the store to make sure that it had been placed. Someone assured me it had been taken care of. No one got back to me. So, I tried again 6 wks later, and the store was clueless as to what I was talking about. No order had been placed! I called Customer Service again..this time it WAS done for sure. The Asst. Mgr. said she would call me with an arrival date. She never did--I had to call her. It came in about 6 weeks later. The last step was to trade my diamond for the center stone that came in the new special made setting. He gave me a promise date of arrival in three weeks. I called in four weeks later and they said it wouldn't be in for another four to five weeks. During my next trip to the mall I decided to stop in and see if it had arrived. It HAD and nobody had bothered to call me. I got home and took a closer look at it and realized that the diamond was very obviously set in the ring crooked. AGHHHHHH!!! $3300 spent on my wedding ring and this is the service I get?? I AM DONE WITH KAY!

Does no one insepct their purchases or receipts before leaving the store anymore? I would think that you would realize your ring looked terrible in the store not when you got home.

i guess the kay store bent your prong for you on your 3300 dollar ring

I did not sign up for this!

I did not sign up to be stressed out and sent to the hospital because of the mis-management of Kay Jeweler's were I work. Today the assistant manager left for more than three hours to do God knows what and that left me and one other employee who was hired on when I was to handle the crowd of customers and situations that we have not been trained to intercept. I became so stressed out. I had to call the assistant manager on his cell phone to return to the store because it was just too much and very inconsiderate of him to leave all of that responsibility on us. We have only been there for a few months. It is just not fair. He gets away with murder. If I would have done the things he is doing, I would have been fired long before my 90 days was up! Shame on my manager and shame on the district manager.....you have others you have a responsibility to. I don't care how polished the store is...there is dirty laundry everywhere in this company. I surely did not sign up to be treated this way...inhumane.

Lifetime watch batteries are a crock at Kays...

My $700.00 watch form Kays, that I have a lifetime battery replacement on ,was going to cost over $200' they said it needed sealing and cleaning etc etc etc, it was just cleaned and tuned and never worn after that as i got another watch for work, I put it away and the battery went dead. The battery warranty is no longer good, they charge to seal it and it's now not done at the store.

I could have a free battery for almost $300.

in work that it did not need.Kays is a rip off !! Don't deal with them they are a rip off....

A "seal" is a .50 rubber gasket. Battery operated watches don't get "tuned".

They are simple battery operated motors...no gears, pinions, or spings. Also, an average watch battery (Installed) is about $7 at most family operated jewelers.

Guest

im sure you had your watch sitting on a pillow under your bed in a safe kays has always sent the watches to their jeweler so they can seal it and keep it water resistant

Kay jewelers 2736 rt 70 c.h. new jersey mgr. Lisa has been rude on several occasions

You were reading a complaint about Kay Jewelers. Filing a new complaint about about 8 months ago followed up on a special order a week and a half later mgr.Lisa at the cherry hill store refused to follow up after promising stating she's busy with a customer,I have been a kay customer for years after that experience I avoided going back to that store. However I have been sick and on my way to work and needed to make a payment and asked my avail. credit for my records and was told I have no priviledges with Kay, called customer service and was giving a dollar amount. Lisa lied and was very nasty and told me if I did'nt like it go to another store.I complained to the district mgr and never received a call back. So no I will never shop with Kay Jewelers again. But I am reporting this to headquarters. She's had similar complaints before from African American customers but i guess we don't count.

*** craftmanship

bought wedding/engagement rings at the end of March and got married in August. I took the rings in before the wedding to get bonded and was not wore until the wedding day. the next day we left for our honeymoon and that night laying in bed my wife was looking at her ring and there was no main diamond, it had lasted 1 day!!! there weren't any kays where we were at so when we got back i took it in and got it back in 12 days. it came back and the diamond was sitting a lot higher than it used to, this isn't what i paid for. thinking about taking it in, but didn't have to wait long, it fell out again just 7 days after getting it fixed. i told them it felt like i bought the ring at wal mart, not the largest jewelry store in the world. so far it has been in the shop longer than it has been on my wife's hand. i haven't had any problem with them doing the warranty work but they said they would do nothing to make me happy to make me want to buy from them again. the warranty covers losing the diamond and i brought the diamond in both times it fell out and they cant do anything to keep me a happy customer?, give me a break. told them i would never buy anything from them again and they said "sorry you feel that way"

Sales People are not Jewelers

I bought a solitare and wedding band was told the rings could be put together with no problem. For whatever reason it can't be done, they put them together & they are not centered. 3 weeks later they still don't have an answer for me other than I can have them taken apart and buy another band. I was also told by the Manager at the Kay Jewelers at Summit Mall, Akron, Ohio that the sales people are not jewelers and they don't know what can or cannot be done with jewelry. Then why are they selling jewelry.

yep that one by no name is dead on. this is one of the stupidest complaints.

Guest

It isnt ridiculous to expect the people you are buying jewelry from to know what they are talking about. Kay's does suck, clearly you are an employee (and clearly offended so a clueless one at that).

I just got screwed hard core and had to return my ring.Shawn Boyles, dont even mess around with chain jewelers they are just a bunch of uneducated ppeople making minimum wage trying to sell . .go to a reputable jeweler who is a true professional!!

Guest

They put my Wife's rings connected backwards and uncentered. It has been more than a month since she has worn her rings.

Guest

you are comparing apples to oranges. if you change your statement to say something about alterations to clothing then maybe you would make more sense.

A sales person should not sell something based on something they cannot answer. the correct response would be "let me contact our jeweler and I'll get back with you" not

guarantee something they cannot provide.

Guest

Hilarious! Obviously they are sales people and not jewelers, that's why they are in the store selling the jewelery and not making it.

When you go into a clothing store, are the sales people supposed to be the designers of the clothing they are selling too!

Or is it their fault that the size doesn't fit you? Lets reexamine your complaint and then maybe you will make sense.

Kays sucks

the charm fell off my daughter's $300.00 bracelet. I have a warranty, that they of course did not honor.

I called and complained, and they basically told me sorry about my luck. They don't care or honor their jewelry at all. I have spent thousands of dollars at Kays, but will not be shopping there again. The charm didn't even last a year.

Their jewelry is not the best quality for the price you pay apparently. I am very disappointed in the way the situation was handled.

Zero customer service at all; I feel screwed! Never shop at Kays.

Kay Jewelers Martinsburg, WV

I had been shopping at the Martinsburg Mall Kay Jewelers since 2008 when my husband first bought my engagement ring with them. He put the service plan on my ring and I brought the ring in every six months to be inspected with no problems until May of 2010. I brought the ring to be inspected with my other jewelry we purchased from the store over time. My ring was inspected and I was told the diamond was "chipped". I asked them to send the off to be fixed since it has the plan. I sales person starts typing in the computer and tells me I have not brought my ring in to be inspected since I bought it and that Kay's would not fix the ring. I told the sales person I had just brought the ring in, in February of 2010 for a loose diamond and their store inspected and fixed the ring for free. He told he needed proof that I had brought the ring in for inspection. I drove home and got the yellow slip Kay's gave me when I turned the ring in saying the ring was under plan, would be fixed for free, along with the date Kay's took the ring and the projected return date. I brought the yellow slip back and the sales person diverted me to the manager to resolve the issue. The manager told me the slip of paper I brought him was "trash" and supposed to be taken when I picked my ring up. He asked me for a "diamond certification" paper and said that is what I needed to bring him. I told him I had been shopping there since 2008 & I never got any kind of paper work when inspecting my jewelry and this was never a problem before. He then said that Kay's would not fix my ring chucked the yellow piece of paper back over the counter at me and told me to have a nice day.

Horrible customer service bought the ring and the stone was set wrong. You would think that when you pay $5000 for a ring it shouldn't have any problems but that wasn't the case it took 2 weeks for them to fix it and it still wasn't set right.

I mean how hard is it to do it right the 1st time.

Obviously it was to hard for the jeweler to make perfect they should have people that know what they are doing fix things like this. Also, I understand that they work on commission but they shouldn't try to talk you into purchasing something that cost more it should be what the customer likes.

Guest

you have been misinformed. you leaving the ring for tightening can be used as an inspection record even if the associate failed to do an actual inspection print out for you. i would call customer relations department and explain this if you have not already done so.

Lifetime warranty?? Right....

My wedding and engagement rings come from Kay Jewlers and my husband bought lifetime warrantys. The 3 rings were soldered together, and 2 months ago I realized the top band (out of 3) broke in 2.

Because I live in Hawaii, there is no shop here to I had to be with out it for 2 1/2 weeks to fly it to Nv or California to be fixed. It came back and you could still feel the crack on both sides and it snagged on things.

Unaccecptable. I Sent the ring back so another 2 1/2 weeks gone. (the shop had noted that it needed to be re-shanked-and with the warranty it should have been done.

It comes back and the next day one of the diamonds fell out. So off it goes again for the 3rd time for 2 1/2 weeks.

Granted-they are covering it. But most of that time is shipping, so I can send something from HI to TX in 3 days. Why is it 2 weeks shipping, and I am with out my wedding ring way too long. 6 1/2 weeks total.

The ring should not have gone out inferior the first time, should not have left the shop, the manager here should have not released it that way. Then the diamonds should ahve been checked the 3rd time.

Fake Wedding Ring from Kay Jeweler

My husband bought our wedding rings from Kay Jeweler last April right before our wedding. Here it is over a year later and he has bent his ring and we need to use the warranty for a repair.

He takes in his ring and is told that it isn't the 14k gold 4mm band that it is actually a sterling silver 4mm and cannot be repaired. Needless to say we are pissed because we spent $200 on a white gold band only to find out it is not what we paid for. The manager tells him there is nothing he can do and we need to speak with corporate.

Corporate tells us that they don't sell sterling silver bands so they can't verify that we aren't trying to scam them. They can try to get us half off of a new wedding band though, because you know the first thing I want to do is buy more jewelery from a store that has already sold me something fake.

I'm a reporter currently writing a story about some of the issues discussed here. Please email me at usconsumertips@***.com if you'd like to talk about your experience with Kay Jewelers.

Guest

Wow... even though they fixed their mistake, a year later, you still find it in your heart to forgive them.

BS! You got married with that silver ring not the white gold ring, amazing. They are so under trained and so inexperienced that they couldn't tell the difference between a silver 'preview' ring and a real gold ring. I'd raise *** but then again its Kay and it wouldn't matter how much you fought, they still wouldn't give a ***.

My friend showed me her ring one day, I noticed a trademark in the shank.

I told her, "Oh wow its a F. Goldman ring!" She said, "A what?" I guess no one cares to educate their customers on what they are buying.

nibbler

I'd like to amend this comment. It took until 8:30 tonight, but Kay called and decided that they could exchange the ring we received for the gold ring we paid for.

After they told us they don't sell sterling bands they realized that they do sell them special order and they think perhaps one got returned to the store and ended up with the gold bands. I'll go with this story if it means the ring gets replaced and we get what we paid for.

KAY JEWELERS/ruined my 40 yr. old diamond

I went to KAY JEWELERS in Arizona Arrowhead Mall to have my 40+ yr.old DIAMOND engagement ring repaired. The employee told me that they would not be able to match the color/grade of GOLD needed to repair my ring. She said they no longer repaired worn band areas by adding [patching] with more gold. She then called over the manager who also commented on the beauty of my DIAMOND ring and verified her evaluation. He suggested we have my DIAMOND remounted in another style setting that would not only show off the eloquence and colors in my diamond but would solve the thinning band problem. He said that the craftmanship cut of my diamond was no longer AVAILABLE which he regretted as it was beautiful. He said i could always upgrade and get a larger size stone. I told him i would NEVER replace my 1/3 sz diamond in-fact I hated to replace the setting after all these yrs.of HEALTH and LIFE trials.HE AGREED AGAIN saying it is a beautiful cut stone! I reluctantly agreed to another setting. He form-documented the value of my diamond with no flaws, chips or cracks initaled it and gave me a copy. Unfortunately I DO have much MORE to this documented story but it would take more space than allowed.THE 1ST setting my DIAMOND FELL OUT and I thought I lost it. I Took it back, went thru the inspection and evaluation process again only to have him call me approx.2 months later to ask me if i wanted the jeweler to hide the chips behind the prongs or not. I FLIPPED and told him if their are any chips your company did them. I HAVE THE PROOF OF THE CONDITION OF MY DIAMOND SIGNED BY YOU.stating NO FLAWS or CHIPS.. He finally admitted[after several phone calls, and showing him my signed by him PROOF OF the value of my BEAUTIFUL 40 YR.OLD DIAMOND WITH NO FLAWS OR CHIPS] the jeweler he sent it to, RUINED my DIAMOND.I asked to SEE it but he said nothing was left!HE Replaced it with a minimal 1/4 sz.stone. No where's near the size or beauty of my diamond.I told him it was too small my diamond was bigger! After all those years I SHOULD KNOW!I LEFT THE STORE as he said it was the setting and to pick out one i liked and he would have it reset.I was SICK. Oh yeah when we went to pick up the ring again he had another PERSON give it to my husband. I was too upset to go thru anymore with this approx.5 month heartbreak!I still CRY over this disaster! Now they have the nerve to bill me $500.00 for something, i just don't remember what they cooked up. At the very least he could have given me a LARGER DIAMOND worth as much as he appraised mine for.I can prove everything I have told you!along with copies of letters to their corp. office.telling of this injustice.

From what I know, Kay Jewelers are the 'bottom of the barrel' jeweler. They don't QC stock items for sale to the consumer.

Items go from the package to the shelves and never inspected. They handed me 2 pairs of earrings when I was wanting to buy as a gift and both pairs were defective. Not under close inspections but by my bare hands and eyes I knew. The posts were bent, nuts were stripped, horrible place to buy, they didn't even know how to use ring sizers!

I'd NEVER buy from a mall store. In your case, you did get everything in writing but they probably took a 1/4ct round diamond from a traded in earring or a $99 special earring set and told you how much prettier it was compared to your original diamond, to get you to settle for less, they disguised it as 'better clarity' or 'better color' so the weight no longer what makes that diamond more or less important or valuable. Its too bad this happened but this is not the first or last tail of Kay Jewelers you will ever hear. Kay, Jarads and Signet jewelers are owned by the same company.

So if you don't buy from one, you'll get fooled to buy from another. That's why they all usually found in the malls right across from each other. I visit the 'Jewelers Row' in downtown Chicago weekly.

Do you what reputable jewelers call 'Jewelers Row'? The den of a thousand thieves.

I suggest, next time instead of shopping by price, shop by quality because, 'Price is forgotten, Quality never is'.

the comment about all diamonds being old -- not all diamonds are mined the same -- they do not come the same quality to the general public as much as they did years ago ---- or the same cut -- cutting a stone is a serious art form -- and since most stones are calibrated and often cut with more and more computerized mechanisms now a days it's hard to get wonderfully cut diamond -- I'd say I would share this woman's pain if I lost such a precious stone. People pay extra money for well cut diamonds, it was highly likely that this stone WAS stolen by the jeweler who had experience and knew a good thing when he saw one -- always SEE the work being done -- take it to places that aren't chains and that have in house jewelers -- places where you can SEE your piece being repaired..

that's important. I am sorry for what happened to you, I'd know I'd never go to kay or any mall chain jewelry store :sigh :sigh :(

#1: KEEP ALL PAPERWORK!

#2: Do you have an insurance appraisal for the diamond?

#3: Did they pay you the value of the destroyed diamond?

#4: Was your original diamond insured?

#5: Why did you accept another diamond from them?

#6: I hate to tell you this, but it is extremely likely that your diamond was not "destroyed" but stolen by the jeweler who replaced it.

#6: If your ring is 40 years old and you did not receive it back, you need to see an attorney, file a complaint with the state Attorney General's Office, and make a complaint with your local police department for theft.

#7: Good luck

To All of You who Have a Complaint About Kay Jewelers

I wish everyone of you would contact the following person: Amanda Warner Trade Practice Manager BBB Complaint Department Use this email address: awarner@***.org I have made a formal complaint and urge the rest of you to do the same. It may or may not give you the satisfaction you desire but it will serve to make Sterling aware of the things that are going on at Kay's. This is so ridiculous that this company can continue to deal with the oublic in any such way. I think we should organize a real protest in front of one of the stores. No one wants bad publicity and that may be what it takes. Obviously, the internet is not working. Thanks.

Complete rip off, my ring is frustration not love.

My fiance bought my ring around Christmas at a Kay jewelers in wanatchee WA. We went back to get a matching Leo wrap we both liked. They didn't have white gold but the manager said we could buy yellow gold so we could use our rewards before they expired and exchange it for white when it came in. She said she would call us in a couple weeks to let us know when it would be in but promised it would be in by atleast April. Our wedding is in June. She never called, we called her she had no clue when it was going to be in. We were coming up on our 30 days to return and didn't want to get stuck with a yellow enhancer for a white gold ring. While visiting our family in western WA we went to the south hill kay jewelers in puyallup WA. 15 minutes after "open" time the store was still locked, a girl who worked there was also locked out said we could go to wiesfeild since they are a sister store. The women there returned the money to the account after informing us that we will lose our rewards totaling about $800. We had no choice or room to gamble, since we were lied to before how could we be sure if they would later let us exchange? We called a couple months later to see if maybe the ring we ordered was in. The man who originally sold the engagement ring to my finance said it had came in two days after we returned our enhancer and no one had called us. They had already sold it to someone else. I was upset since the manager was not helpful, the guy sales person felt bad and called later about a sale trying to help but no where near the $800 we were forced to give up. And again they couldn't promise the date. I called customer care multiple times. They put me on hold for half an hour to say there's nothing they can do. I don't have a house phone they wasted my minutes and money for disappointment. When I asked to speak with someone higher up she claimed to be the highest person I could speak to. Then when talking to the manager in wanatchee she claimed we were suppose to make a down payment before the white gold wrap was ordered. Which she never said and also does not make sense if it still came in and was sold. I called her personally and she still claimed this. My white gold ring also keeps turning yellow. I later found out this is common but they never told us before we bought it otherwise we could have just bought the yellow gold Leo and have that enhancer. So we decided to get something made that looked like that wrap from a different store who quoted us way less! But then we found that would void our warranty *sigh* so I wanted to go the cheap way and get my promise ring and engagement ring put together. To cut a chunk out of my promise ring and put my ring in it they were quoting $1000! But of course not after not calling to let me know multiple times after I called them. I want to pawn my ring and start over! I just get frustrated when I look at my ring. I should be feeling happy loving feelings. Not like I'm getting flash backs of getting raped by Kay jewelers. Every kiss begins with kay????? Well they can kiss my ... everyone I've spoken to kay customers or not have awful things to say about the scam of a place. After spending thousands of dollars on a piece of gunk Leo they could atleast try to resolve the issue. The only resolution they gave us is remount on yellow gold. Which we would have to pay for then pay full price for the enhancer. I pray you read this before buying. Thank you. Michelle Armenta

TO Christine, are you sure he didn't buy a white gold band? White gold looks very similar to platinum. Some people look at white gold and just assume its platinum because its silver in color.

That's a shame. I'm lucky to have gotten great service where we went!

And my ring is 4 carats.

I love it. :)

Okay, so I have been married for 5 years and both my engagement ring and wedding band came from Kays. When my husband purchased my engagement ring it was on a yellow gold band.

He wanted platinum so he paid the extra to have the band switched from yellow gold to platinum. Just last night I went to a "gold party" where you can sell your old gold jewelry. I thought “I have this band I will never use I'll just take that, its 14 karat gold” (according to the paperwork). I was so MAD to find out when they gave us back the original 14k gold band to keep that it wasn’t at all the band my husband had purchased.

The band they gave us back was a piece of medal painted!

Now knowing this, I am not sure what to do about it considering it has been 5 years! I thought I would get the word out that I have been completely ripped off and scammed by Kay Jewelers.
